Introduction
The
aim of this research was to make a practical work which is presented in Kanepi
Gymnasium. The practical research was carried out in form 8 from September 2015
to April 2016.
The
present summary consists of the following parts: Introduction, History,
Procedure, Result, and Conclusion. It describes all the research and practical
work done.
I
decided to make a dollhouse. Our school headmaster gave us this idea, so we
started with it. By the end of the project, the dollhouse will be given to
Kanepi’s Kindegarden “Rõõmutare”
History
Miniature homes, furnished with
domestic articles and resident inhabitants, both people and animals, have been
made for thousands of years. The earliest known examples were found in the Egyptian tombs of the Old Kingdom,
created nearly five thousand years ago. These wooden models of servants,
furnishings, boats, livestock and pets placed in the Pyramids almost certainly
were made for religious purposes.
The earliest known European
dollhouses were the “baby houses” from the 16th century, which consisted
of cabinet display cases made up of individual rooms. Dollhouses of this period
showed idealized interiors complete with detailed furnishings and accessories.
The cabinets were built by hand with architectural details, filled with
miniature household items and were solely intended for adults. They were
off-limits to children, not because of safety concerns for the child but for
the dollhouse. Such cabinet houses were trophy collections owned by the few
matrons living in the cities of Holland, England and Germany who were wealthy
enough to afford them, and, fully furnished, were worth the price of a modest
full-size house's construction.
After World War II, dollhouses
were mass-produced in factories on a much larger scale with less detailed
craftsmanship than before. By the 1950s, the typical dollhouse sold
commercially was made of painted sheet metal
filled with plastic furniture. Such houses cost little enough that the great
majority of girls from the developed western countries that were not struggling
with rebuilding after World War II could own one.
Procedure
First I had to find a dollhouse
on the internet. After that I had to take wooden plate and mark there
dimensions. Then I cut out first floor details and polished these. After that I
marked second floor dimensions and cut these out. Then I took all the details
together and polished these again.
When the polishing was done, I
put together all the details (first & second floor details). When it was
done I had to paint my house. I decided to use light-yellow and red. Indoor it
is light-yellow. Outside, it is red.
Also, I made some furniture
inside the house. I made three armchairs, one table and one bed.
Result
I am very pleased with the
result. I like dollhouse what I made. It looks awesome and beautiful.
Conclusion
To
sum up, I am quite pleased. Although, I guess I will never do it again, because
it was quite annoying for me because. But I’m still quite interested to give it
Kanepi’s Kindegarden.
